My eggs are floating, are they still good?

Answered by Egg Farmers of Ontario January 7th, 2020

Answer

To determine if your eggs are still good, refer to the Best Before Date on the carton. This is the most reliable way to check if your eggs meet Grade A standards.

While an egg that floats in water may indicate age, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s expired.

As eggs age, air enters through tiny pores in the shell and collects at the wide end. Over time, this air accumulation causes the egg to float in water.
